Palestinian and Israeli Women Unite to End Bloodshed
October 4, 2023
a powerful demonstration of unity and determination took place as 1,500 Palestinian and Israeli women gathered in Jerusalem and at the Dead Sea. This landmark event, organized by Women of the Sun and Women Wage Peace, brought together mothers from both sides of the conflict with a clear message:
“We, Palestinian and Israeli mothers, are determined to stop the vicious cycle of bloodshed and to change the reality of the difficult conflict between both nations, for the benefit of our children.”
The day began at the separation wall near the Bethlehem checkpoint, symbolizing the barriers we seek to overcome. Participants then moved to the Armon Hanatziv promenade in Jerusalem, where diplomats and world-renowned influencers showed their support for our cause.
The event culminated at Neve Midbar beach by the Dead Sea. An exhibit of Peace Quilts adorned the fence, while the main rally centered around Sigalit Landau’s round table installation, symbolizing the negotiation table where Palestinian and Israeli representatives, along with international diplomats and public figures, gathered to voice their shared commitment to peace.
Reem Hajajri, a leader of Women of the Sun, emphasized the movement’s growth and determination: “We started out as a movement with a few lone women and now we are thousands from the West Bank and Gaza. We no longer take the back seat and are determined to act persistently to end the cycle of bloodshed and to achieve freedom and a just, honorable life for Palestinian and Israeli children.”
Yael Admi of Women Wage Peace added: “This is a historical partnership of two women’s movements who will not cease to voice their demands that the leadership of both sides promote a peace agreement and ensure a future of peace, security and freedom for both nations.”
The event featured prominent speakers, including representatives from the US Embassy, European Union, and various international parliaments, underlining the global significance of our joint efforts for peace.
This gathering marks a significant step in our ongoing commitment to end the conflict and create a better future for all our children. We continue to call on people from both nations and the wider region to join our cause and support the resolution of this long-standing conflict.
