Funded by the U.S. Embassy, the Women Building a Future of Peace project represents a groundbreaking collaboration between Women Wage Peace and Women of the Sun, aimed at fostering dialogue and empowering women to lead peacebuilding efforts. Spanning a year from September 2022 to September 2023, this initiative focused on creating a diverse, women-led public discourse to prepare Israeli and Palestinian societies for a negotiated solution to the conflict.
Through a series of workshops, training sessions, and public events, the project brought together over 200 women from the West Bank, Gaza, and Israel. Participants engaged in intensive peacebuilding training, gaining skills in conflict resolution, leadership, and communication, while fostering mutual understanding and trust.
Key highlights included:
• Uni-national and Joint Workshops: Israeli and Palestinian women participated in separate training sessions to build confidence and skills before coming together in joint workshops, culminating in meaningful dialogue and shared aspirations for peace.
• Palestinian-Israeli Joint Meeting (May 2023): Held at the American Hub in Jerusalem, this pivotal gathering brought together 50 women from each movement for open dialogue. Participants explored themes of trust-building, gender equality, and peaceful coexistence, sharing personal stories and aspirations for a brighter future.
• Concluding Women’s Conference (July 2023): Taking place in Jisr A-Zarqa, this landmark event celebrated the achievements of the project. Over 250 women gathered to share their stories, engage in creative workshops, and showcase the transformative power of their collaboration.
The project’s impact extended beyond the workshops. By empowering women to become activists and leaders, it elevated public discourse and inspired new narratives around the potential for peace.
Participants not only strengthened their own advocacy skills but also became catalysts for change within their communities, demonstrating that grassroots efforts led by women can make a significant difference.
