In a profound moment for the Israeli Women Wage Peace and Palestinian Women of the Sun movements, Pope Franciscus endorsed the joint Mothers’ Call at the Arena of Peace conference held in Verona, Italy. This event marked a significant recognition of the joint efforts of both movements to bring peace to a region long troubled by conflict.
In front of an audience of 12,000 people, Israeli peace activists Yael Admi and Hyam Tannous, along with Palestinian activist Reem Hajajreh, sent a powerful video message representing their respective movements. On their behalf, Israeli peace activist Maoz Inon and Palestinian peace activist Aziz Abu Sarah, both from bereaved families, personally presented the Mothers’ Call to the Pope.
The event, which brought together civil peace organizations from across the world, underscored the honor and validation given to the tireless efforts of both Women Wage Peace and Women of the Sun. Receiving support from the Pope is a monumental recognition of the movements’ dedication to peace and their shared vision of a better future.
This moment stands as a beacon of hope, demonstrating the growing global support for peace efforts in the region.
