In March 2023, Women Wage Peace and Women of the Sun were honored to participate in the inaugural Women’s World Forum for Peace held in Essaouira, Morocco. This significant event, organized by the Guerrières de la Paix (Warriors of Peace)—a movement of Jewish and Muslim women dedicated to peace, justice, and equality—coincided with International Women’s Day, underscoring the pivotal role of women in peacebuilding efforts worldwide.

The forum brought together women activists from diverse backgrounds and countries, including Morocco, Palestine, Rwanda, Senegal, Liberia, and Israel, all united in their commitment to justice, emancipation, and freedom. Notably, Nobel Peace Laureate Shirin Ebadi from Iran delivered an inspiring address, emphasizing the transformative power of women’s leadership in conflict resolution.
Representatives from Women Wage Peace and Women of the Sun shared their experiences and initiatives aimed at fostering peace and reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians. Their testimonies highlighted the importance of dialogue, mutual understanding, and collaborative action in overcoming divisions and building a sustainable future for both peoples.
A highlight of the event was the formation of a human chain in front of the historic Sqala ramparts in Essaouira’s medina, symbolizing solidarity and a collective call for global peace. Participants also visited Bayt Dakira, a spiritual and heritage space dedicated to preserving and enhancing Judeo-Moroccan memory, reflecting the forum’s emphasis on cultural diversity and coexistence.
The Women’s World Forum for Peace in Essaouira served as a powerful platform for amplifying women’s voices in peace processes and reinforced the essential role women play in achieving lasting peace and security. The participation of Women Wage Peace and Women of the Sun in this forum further solidified their commitment to collaborative peace efforts and highlighted the global resonance of their mission.
