In support of Women of the Sun and Women Wage Peace, three remarkable concerts titled “Together for Humanity” were held in Berlin, Geneva, and San Francisco. These events brought together internationally renowned artists, including both Israeli and Palestinian musicians, to amplify the call for peace and humanity amid the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.
Berlin Concert
The Berlin concert took place on December 20, 2023, at the Philharmonie Berlin. Under the banner “Together for Humanity,” esteemed musicians such as pianists Martha Argerich and Kirill Gerstein, baritone Thomas Hampson, cellist Steven Isserlis, soprano Christiane Karg, and violinist Christian Tetzlaff performed. Israeli and Palestinian-Israeli artists, including pianist Iddo Bar-Shai, oud player Taiseer Elias, and singers Noa and Mira Awad, also participated. The concert concluded with Max Bruch’s “Kol Nidrei,” performed by the Berliner Philharmoniker under the direction of Kirill Petrenko, with Amihai Grosz, principal violist of the orchestra, as the soloist.
Geneva Concert
The Geneva concert was held on September 21, 2023, aligning with the International Day of Peace and marking the 25th anniversary of the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption of the Declaration and Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace. Initiated by pianists Martha Argerich and Iddo Bar-Shai, alongside singer and peace activist Noa, the event featured internationally renowned musicians, including both Israeli and Palestinian artists, in a moving expression of solidarity and hope.
San Francisco Concert
The San Francisco concert, titled “Singing Together,” was held on November 24, 2024, at the Mission Dolores Basilica. This interfaith, multi-ethnic musical collaboration featured Jewish Israeli clarinetist Asaf Ophir, Arab Israeli vocalist Catrene Malshey, Kurdish Iranian oud master Sirvan Manhoobi, and Indian American percussionist Mohini Rustagi Vora. The event aimed to raise funds for victims in Gaza and Israel, with proceeds supporting Women of the Sun, Women Wage Peace, and the Israeli Children’s Fund, which aids children who lost parents in the conflict.
The dedication of these talented artists not only strengthened our movements but also helped us reach new audiences and raise essential funds to continue our work with renewed vigor. Their support is a powerful reminder of the role art can play in inspiring change and fostering hope.
We are deeply grateful to all the artists and attendees who joined us in raising the banner of peace. Together, we continue to build bridges and work tirelessly for a brighter future.
