At the initiative of the Women Wage Peace and Women of the Sun support group in the Netherlands, Reem Hajajra, Director of the Palestinian organization Women of the Sun, and Yael Admi, Co-Founder of the Israeli movement Women Wage Peace, were invited to The Hague Women and Peace Conference at the Peace Palace in The Hague.
Alongside women from conflict zones around the world, participants gathered at the Peace Palace on International Human Rights Day to share their ideas, experiences, and initiatives for advancing peace in their respective regions.
On the day before the conference, Reem and Yael took part in intensive discussions with women’s groups from around the world. They shared their activities and plans for the future, while building important connections and opportunities for future cooperation.
On the day of the conference, Reem and Yael opened the session as keynote speakers, discussing the role of women in promoting peace in the spirit of UN Security Council Resolution 1325, which recognizes the important role of women in peace and security.
The conference, with a history spanning more than a century, challenges the question, “What if women ruled the world?” to remain merely rhetorical, instead presenting it as a vision of a viable and achievable goal.
Reem and Yael shared with the audience the challenges they face, their shared commitment to peace, and their plans to march Barefoot together in Rome, led by Vital Voices.
Following their speeches, Reem and Yael received a long and standing ovation from the audience in recognition of their message and their joint commitment to peace.
Following the event, several conference participants approached Reem and Yael, signed the Mothers’ Call, and expressed their appreciation and support for their commitment and dedication. They also expressed their desire to participate in future initiatives.
