In June, our movements, Women of the Sun and Women Wage Peace, had the privilege of participating in a virtual meeting with Secretary Hillary Clinton as part of the Global Women Leaders Summit held in Italy. This significant event brought together prominent leaders from around the world, including Monica McWilliams, who participated in the Northern Ireland peace talks, former New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark, Ambassador Melanne Verveer former Finland Prime Minister Sanna Marin, and former Australia Prime Minister Julia Gillard, among others.
During the meeting, we had the opportunity to present our movements, our partnership, and our joint activities. We shared our Mothers’ Call, which aims to end the cycle of bloodshed and achieve a political agreement for the sake of our children’s future. The response from all participants, especially Secretary Clinton, was overwhelmingly supportive and encouraging.
The meeting emphasized the crucial role that women on both sides of the conflict play in bringing unique perspectives, unwavering determination, empathy, and collaborative solutions to the peace process. Discussions highlighted how women’s involvement can lead to more comprehensive and sustainable peace agreements.
The international interest in our partnership underscores the significance of our activities and reinforces our belief that even in the darkest times, we can and must strive for a better future. Our joint participation in this high-profile event demonstrated the strength of the bond between Women of the Sun and Women Wage Peace, showcasing how Palestinian and Israeli women are working together, transcending boundaries to promote peace and understanding.
This experience has further motivated us to continue our work, knowing that our efforts are recognized and supported by global leaders. We remain committed to our shared vision of a peaceful resolution to the conflict, where both Palestinians and Israelis can live in dignity and security.
We extend our gratitude to Secretary Clinton and all the participants of the Global Women Leaders Summit for their support and for providing us with this platform to share our message of hope and collaboration.
