On International Women’s Day 2024, our movements, Women of the Sun and Women Wage Peace, received a profound honor on the global stage: inclusion in TIME Magazine’s prestigious Women of the Year 2024 list.
Reem Hajajreh, representing the Palestinian movement Women of the Sun, and Dr. Yael Admi, representing the Israeli movement Women Wage Peace, were among 12 extraordinary women leaders celebrated by TIME for their transformative contributions. They embodied the tireless efforts of our movements to build a more just and equitable future.
This recognition came at a pivotal moment in our shared history. Amid one of the most challenging and painful periods for both Palestinians and Israelis, this honor reaffirmed the importance and urgency of our mission. It underscored the power of unity and perseverance in the face of immense adversity.
Being included in this list was not just an acknowledgment of our representatives, but a tribute to every woman in our movements who has refused to succumb to despair. It celebrated the courage of thousands who stand together, striving to end violence and resolve the conflict through non-violent, political means.
This recognition strengthened our resolve and reminded the world of the critical role women play in the pursuit of peace. It reignited our commitment to a future where all children—Palestinian and Israeli alike—can live in safety, dignity, and hope.
As we reflected on this achievement, we renewed our call for peace and invited more women to join our movement. Together, we continue to raise the flag of hope, working tirelessly for a just and peaceful resolution to the conflict that has divided us for too long.
